Day 1: San Juan - Barreal. Visit to Calingasta
Upon arrival at San Juan airport we will pick up the rental car. We will start driving on route 40 to reach the Calingasta Valley, visit the town and the beautiful landscapes on the banks of the De los Patos River.
Day 2: Visit to El Leoncito National Park and the Astronomical Complex.
Today we suggest visiting El Leoncito National Park and the CASLEO Astronomical complex. Prior reservation is required for night visits. Another possibility is to have a landyachting experience in Barreal.
Day 3: Barreal - San Juan. Visit to the Domingo Sarmiento Museum
After breakfast at the hotel we say goodbye to Barreal and hit the road on Route 40 to San Juan City. In the afternoon, we suggest visiting the Domingo Faustino Sarmiento Museum.
Day 4: Visit to Caucete and the Southern Wine Route.
Today we propose a day full of gastronomic experiences. First, visit Caucete in the town of Vallecito, famous for its olive production. Also, we will have time to visit the Sanctuary of the Difunta Correa. Finally, we suggest visiting the different wineries of the Southern Wine Route: Alto Verde, Las Marianas, La Guarda, Seguisa or the champagne winery Miguel Mas.
Day 5: Fértil Valley. Cuesta de Huaco. Talampaya National Park
We say goodbye to San Juan and hit route 40 to drive 180 kilometers uphill along Cuesta de Huaco to arrive at the Talampaya National Park. Upon arrival we will park the vehicle at the entrance and take the Full Talampaya experience which includes a 4x4 ride on a 6-hour tour discovering Petroglyphs, the Botanical Garden and several rock formations: the Gothic Cathedral, El Monje, the Shimpa Canyon. There is also a chance to do a trek to the balconies of Talampaya.
Day 6: Ischigualasto Provincial Park (Valle de La Luna)
After breakfast we drive to Ischigualasto Provincial Park (Valle de la Luna) to visit its impressive desert rock formations that resemble the lunar surface. There we will visit Pintado Valley and the Cancha de Bochas
Day 7: Villa Unión – La Rioja
Drive from Villa Unión to La Rioja touring beautiful landscapes along the Cuesta de Miranda to drop off the rental car at the airport.
