Puerto Natalesis a city in the south of Chile; it is located near the National Parks Torres del Paine, Bernardo O’Higgins and the fjords’ glaciers in the region. It is a must-see destination for those who love nature and relaxing in one of the most incredible ladscapes in the country.

The city of Puerto Natales is the capital of the province of Ultima Esperanza, founded in 1911. It has a population of around 16,000 inhabitants and it is an important livestock farming center and a port of departure for the production of this sector. In the surroundings of the city, the splendid territory is dominated by many estancias (cattle farms) and in the outskirts there are many orchards for the production of vegetables.

In the city there are many cafes, restaurants and a casino. It is an excellent destination for those travelers who are looking for nature and peace.


Climate

The climate in this region is called trans-Andean with steppe degeneration. This type of climate is the one found in the east of the Patagonian Cordillera (mountain chain), which extends from the Cordillera del Paine to the south and southeast. It includes all the Brunswick Peninsula and the south part of Tierra del Fuego.

This region is quite dry, it has a steppe landscape and annual rainfall between 250 and 400 mm. The rains are distributed quite uniformly during the year. The rainiest season is autumn (April and May).

The average temperature during the year is aroun 6°C. Despite the latitude, the temperatures in winter are not extremely low, the average temperature is 1°C.

A characteristic of the climate in this region are the winds, which blow constantly south west and west with an average intensity of 15 to 20 km/h.

During the summer there are many wind storms, where the average intensity of the wind is 120 km/h or more.
