Norwegian Star – Patagonia, Falklands and Antarctica

Set off on a journey from Argentina that will take you to Chile, the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) and Uruguay. You will know the islands Deception and Elephant, and Cape Vigia in Antarctica as you get closer to the South Pole. A walk through La Rambla in Montevideo. In Puerto Stanley (Argentine Port) visit the Cathedral of the Anglican Church of Christ, the southernmost in the world, or prepare for an enchanting encounter with penguins.

Day 1 – Sunday: Embark in Buenos Aires.

Boarding time 6:45 PM.

Day 2 – Monday: At sea.

Day 3 – Tuesday: Puerto Madryn.

Optional tours: Punta Tombo Penguin colony, Visit el Pedral farmhouse and Punta Ninfas , Península Valdés in full, etc.

Day 4 – Wednesday: At sea.

Day 5 – Thursday: Punta Arenas, Chile.

Optional tours: Trekking at Andino Park. Fort Bulnes and Magellan’s Strait Park, Penguins at Isla Magdalena, etc.

Day 6 – Friday: Ushuaia.

Optional tours: End of the World Off-Road Adventure, Tierra del Fuego National Park, End of the World Prison & Vintage Train, Penguin Colony sailing and Beagle Channel & Estancia Harberton, etc.

Day 7 – Saturday: At sea.

Day 8 - Sunday: Deception Island.

Deception Island is an active volcano in the South Shetland Islands, off the Antarctic Peninsula, about 920 km south of Argentina. It is administered by the Antarctic Treaty System. The horse-shoe shaped island (diameter 12 km) has a large flooded caldera that opens to the sea through a narrow channel at Neptune’s Bellows, forming a natural sheltered harbour. Its landscape comprises barren volcanic slopes, a number of peaks (to 576m), steaming beaches and ash-layered glaciers.

Day 9 – Monday: Elephant Island/ Lookout Cape (cabo Vigía).

Elephant Island is an ice-covered, mountainous island off the coast of Antarctica in the outer reaches of the South Shetland Islands in the Southern Ocean. To the north in an arc are the South American mainland, Falkland Islands, and South Georgia. Elephant Island was originally named Sea Elephant Island. While the island doesn’t support any significant flora or native fauna, migratory Gentoo penguins and seals may be found on its shores, and chinstrap penguins nest there in season.

Day 10 – Tuesday: At sea.

Day 11 – Wednesday Port Stanley (Puerto Argentino), Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas).

Optional tours: Penguin Colony at Bluff Lagoon, Cathedral of the Anglican Church of Christ, etc.

Day 12 – Thursday: At sea.

Day 13 - Friday: At sea.

Day 14 – Saturday: Punta del Este.

Optional tour: Punta del Este, Casapueblo and Ralli Museum, Punta del Este bike tour, Picnic at Viña del Edén, etc.

Day 15 – Sunday: Buenos Aires.

Disembark at 5.45 AM.

In 1999 the area known as Peninsula Valdes was declared Natural World Heritage by the UNESCO. It is worldwide known because Southern Right Whales mate and calve in these waters during the months from June to December. It is also important to highlight the variety of fauna in this zone: Elephant Seals, South American Sea Lions, Orcas, Magellanic Penguins, Commerson’s Dolphins, Dolphins, Lesser rheas, Guanacos, Patagonian maras and a variety of sea birds.

Puerto Madrynwas declared Capital of Diving in Argentina. Many of those who love diving visit it because of the clear and deep waters of Golfo Nuevo and Golfo San José to be in better contact with the marine fauna.
