In 1934, the Patagonia and the Andean regions were deserted and untouched. That year, when the Nahuel Huapi National Park was created, it was decided to build an international hotel to develop the tourist potential in the zone, and also to create communities and communications.
The architect Alejandro Bustillo chose the area at Puerto Pañuelo to build the Hotel, not only because of the great beauty of the landscape, but also because there was a port. The hotel was inaugurated on the 9th of January, 1938, built in a Canadian style with walls covered by cypress logs and the roof made of larch wood tiles. On the 26th of October, 1939 a fire burnt the whole building, which was re inaugurated on the 15th of December, 1940. Since then, it has attracted members of the aristocracy and of the diplomatic and political world and other distinguished figures, until in 1978 it was closed for 15 years, retaining its true spirit intact.
The Hotel re opened its doors in June 1993 as Llao Llao Hotel & Resort, Golf-Spa. In December 2007, the Moreno Lake Wing was inaugurated (Llao Llao Luxury Suites-Moreno Lake Wing), located in a strategically place with breathtaking views of the Lago Moreno and the Cerro Tronador. This wing has 43 new rooms: Studios and Deluxe Studios, 2 Master Suites and a Royal Suite.
