Day 1: Arrival at El Chaltén – Technical equipment checking
Transfer to the hotel, meeting with the guide and a talk on Southern Patagonian Ice, information on the program and the necessary explanation on how to use the personal equipment. Dinner.
Day 2: Valle del Río Eléctrico
Breakfast and transfer to the bridge over the Río Eléctrico. Starting the first trekking day towards the Marconi Glacier. Walking through a woods of ñires and lengas, around two hours. Entering the glacier world: a great valley from where the Treinta Aniversario, Marconi Norte and Sur Mountains can be seen. The walk continues, bordering the Lago Eléctrico, after wading the Río Pollone, and after one hour walk, we will set up the campsite on the western shore of the Lago Eléctrico. Day 3: Glaciar Marconi – Paso Marconi
After breakfast, undoing the campsite and packing the backpacks, then we start a 30 minute walk to the Marconi Glacier moraine. This is a short, but difficult stretch. Once the Marconi Glacier is reached, we will continue towards the Paso Marconi, 800 m difference in altitude. At the end of the day, setting up the campsite in the surroundings of the Cerro Marconi Sur. This is a great view at sunset and dawn on the walls of the Fitz Roy, the Supercanaleta, the Cerro Pier Giorgio and the Gorra Blanca. Dinner at the campsite.
Day 4: Paso Marconi – Circo de los Altares
After breakfast, we start crossing the Paso Marconi; here, for the first time, the guide and assistants will pull from the sledges, packed with tents, supplies, gas, etc. After one hour walk, we can admire the wonderful view of the Volcan Lautaro –still active-, the Cordón Mariano Moreno, the Paso de los Cuatro Glaciares and the Glaciar Chico towards the south west. We will continue the trekking on the South Patagonian Ice to the Circo de los Altares. The snow rackets must be worn during this stretch. Dining at the Circo de los Altares Campsite.
Day 5: SPI (South Patagonian Ice), Circo de los Altares – Paso del Viento Shelter
After breakfast, and if the weather and physical conditions permit, we will start walking to the Laguna de los Esquíes towards the Paso del Viento Shelter. Dining at the Paso del Viento Shelter campsite.
Day 6: Paso del Viento Shelter
Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Paso del Viento Shelter campsite. This will be a day for resting.
Day 7: Paso Huemul
After breakfast, we set off to the Lago Viedma, then to the Viedma Glacier, admiring the amazing view of the Southern Patagonian Ice. An interesting trekking day along the slope of the Cerro Huemul, where we will enjoy spectacular landscapes: lakes, Andean prairies and amazing views. Arrival at the Paso Huemul campsite. Dinner.
Day 8: Lago Viedma
Breakfast and then descending to the Lago Viedma and Cape Horn Bay, boarding a boat to the Bahía Tunel and navigating approximately one hour. Arrival at the bay, transfer to El Chaltén. Dinner at the inn.
Day 9: Weather Day
This day is used in case the weather conditions don’t allow to continue with the journey. If it is not necessary, it will be used as an extra day at the Circo de los Altares or wherever the guide arranges, without having to go to El Chaltén, previously.
Day 10: End of the Expedition
