During this activity to San Antonio de los Cobres we will follow the rails of the Train to the Clouds, making stops on the way and walks, including the pre-Inca ruins of Santa Rosa de Tastil, and then continue to San Antonio de los Cobres.

The activity to San Antonio de los Cobres starts in the city of Salta, towards the west till we reach Campo Quijano, a town at the foot of the Andes with natural and cultural attractions.

Continuing with the trip, we enter the Quebrada del Toro, which leads us to Santa Rosa de Tastil. Here we will visit one of the most important pre-Inca sites in the region, where there are ruins and museums.

Once in the Puna, we get to San Antonio de los Cobres. There we will see the copper mine workshops, gas pipelines and we can also visit its church, school and inn.

At San Antonio de los Cobres, the train and the other land excursions stop for tourists to buy crafts. The artisans sell their regional products, knitted garments are what is most found because they are the main work source for women in the region. This is an ancient custom which has been transmitted from generation to generation.

You can see socks, gloves, pullovers, waist-coats, hats, blankets and ruanas, knitted with wool from sheep or llama. Different techniques are used to make these garments, for making pullovers and waist-coats, they use two needles, and five needles to make gloves and socks.

It is very frequent to see these women with their old looms made of cardon, typical wood in the region.

We leave San Antonio de los Cobres to continue with the excursion to La Polvorilla, where we will see the incredible viaduct, which is one of the attractions on the way of the Train to the Clouds.

From there, we start our return trip to Salta along the same road.
