On the activity Cachi, starting from Salta, we will visit a colonial town from the 18th century. Crossing the Calchaquí Valleys we will arrive at Cachi, 2200 meters above sea level, famous for its stone houses with mud walls and its steep, cobbled streets.

This tour starts at 7:30 am, when you will be picked up at the hotel in Salta Capital. From there, the road will take us to Carrillos, El Carril, Pulares, the Quebrada de Escoipe and Cuesta del Obispo.

The highest point at Cuesta del Obispo is at 3348 meters above sea level, from there we can see the millstone of an old flour mill from where the middle region of the Calchaqui Valleys takes its name: Piedra del Molino.

This is a connecting point between the two valleys: Valle de Lerma, lower and milder, and the Calchaquí Valleys (between the mountain chains, 1200 higher and more arid).

On our way to Cachi, we will go into the Valle Encantado, gate to the Los Cardones National Park, to enter the desert in the Park and take the Tin Tin Straight, viewing the beautiful landscape with cardons that surrounds us. Before our last stop on our way to Cachi, we will pass a town named Payogasta at 2210 meters above sea level, on the banks of the River Calchaquí. This typical town in the north of Argentina is surrounded by mounts and hills from the Andes foothills.

Cachi is a colonial town from the 18th century, with cobbled streets and houses with a stone base and mud walls covered with lime and sand. The name Cachi comes from Quechua and means “salt”, because the natives had mistaken the peak of the Nevado with a salt flat.

The stone park and the church attract the attention because of their beauty.

Around 6:00 pm we start the return trip to the city of Salta.
