5* | Puerto Bemberg Jungle Hotel

Don Puerto Bemberg Lodge is a jungle boutique hotel with personalized service of 5 stars, strategically located in the missionary jungle, in a private nature reserve, 35 minutes from Iguazu Waterfalls. Trails, natural waterfalls, rivers, trees and native plants and fauna of the jungle characterize the environment of the Lodge.

When the SAFAC family company came to an end in their long and foundational story in the province of Misiones (first company in Argentina because of its size and vigor in yerba mate and tungoil tree cultivation and in forestation etc.), an area of 380 hectares was kept, which included the old family house, on the bank of the mythical, deep and clear Paraná River together with all the significant buildings and belongings. When it was decided to sell this area to third parties, we undertook the challenge to enhance the value of the old Bemberg spirit in the new tourist industry. Our grandmother, Rosa Bemberg, married to Hubert de Ganay, was the only sister to Otto and Federico Bemberg, the pioneers who developed Puerto Libertad, originally called Puerto Bemberg.

The spirit was to build, in those days and in a distant frontier in Argentina, an important industry just as much in the standards of its products as in the treatment of their employees. Quality and refinement in the school, the hospital, the homes, the sports center, and everything that was related to the urban complex.

There, in 1940 and 500 m away from the main house, the first Puerto Bemberg Inn was built. A must for those who wanted to see the Iguazu Falls, which had to be seen from the river. Holidays, drinks during the long trip, celebrations, and wedding nights. Long stays in the sensuality of the jungle and also, honeymoons for the people in Misiones, for foreigners and Argentines, were the main activities held in this old Inn.

Alix de Ganay, Francois de Ganay, their heirs, and Juan Zarraquín, took the bull by the horns, and decided to make the best out of this place. They would make a place where all the luxury in the Misiones jungle would be offered a few steps away from the maximum art that culture and decorative art would allow without losing austerity or beauty. This Puerto Bemberg Inn was created for those who love the comfort and intimacy of the big family houses, without limit to comfort and refinement. A great book-store was created by Pablo Fierro, a bookseller with a longstanding tradition, focused on languages. An old grand piano; a wine cellar, decorated by Eduardo Hoffman, the painter from Mendoza, with 1500 bottles of our best wines; a swimming pool; natural pools in the Guatambú Stream; a native plant nursery; an organic orchard; fish farming in large pools; trails for bird watching, guided by Emilio White. Viewpoints, decks up in the trees to be sheltered from the rage of a tropical storm. Boat trips to places that emulate or are the remains of the lost paradise.

All this is done, together with Juan Manuel Zorraquín and Carolina Fonrouge, its managers, who offer their guests their warmth, charm and their vocation of service.

All rooms are large and cool, with high ceilings and local furniture, designed by artists. The decoration has a tropical sensuality, which is an invitation for resting and contemplation. Its unique style can be appreciated in the wooden, multi colored heads of the beds, original from the “conventillos” in the neighborhood of La Boca. Colors from the earth, rugs made of llama wool, pure cotton Egyptian sheets, amenities of great quality that provide the style and comfort, searched by the most experimented travelers.

Each room has its own library by Latin American authors from the 20th century, its own patio and large windows overlooking the jungle, to enjoy happy mornings, unforgettable sunsets and symphonic evenings.
