El Calafate  is located in the province of Santa Cruz, Argentina, on the shore of the Lago Argentino, an incredible place to enjoy peace and nature. From there you can appreciate the characteristic Patagonian landscape, its flora and its fauna. The Calafate creek, which divides the city in two, is a backwater with a rocky bed, surrounded by willows growing on its banks. This city is the nearest place to the Glaciers National Park and its famous Perito Moreno Glacier.

The El Calafate village was created in 1927. Its name comes from a thorny bush that grows there, whose fruits are used to make jam. This picturesque village forms part of the most important tourist center in the province of Santa Cruz; it is located on the shore of the Lago Argentino.

El Calafatehas a mild microclimate, which makes it an oasis that surprises the tourist in a landscape of arid Patagonian plateaux.

For those travelers who would like to visit the Glaciers National Park and its famous Perito Moreno Glacier, El Calafate is the nearest place where you will find accommodation. The city has buildings with gabled roofs to avoid the weight of the snow.

El Calafate  has a good hotel and gastronomic infrastructure, tourism agencies and guides that organize a variety of activities. It also has discos and many restaurants.

The climate in the village is dry, with average temperatures between -2°C in winter and 18°C in summer. Rain is scarce and autumn is the rainiest season.
